The origin of the clothespin dates back to 1800s when it was used specifically for holding freshly laundered clothes on a line to dry. I am one of the small majority that still use clothespins for their intended purpose but in addition I enjoy crafting with new items all the time. To celebrate the upcoming Spring season I thought of a great idea to complete a wooden clothespin wreath DIY project.

Supplies Needed for Wooden Clothespin Wreath DIY
- wire wreath form
- clothespins
- spray paint
- felt balls
- felt flowers
- hot glue gun
- hot glue sticks
- wood surface
- hello stencil
- velvet ribbon
The first step is to gather the supplies, when buying wire wreath forms I like the ones that are flat and only have two wires, however this project could easily be adjusted to use the bent three wire frames. The clothespins can be found online, at the dollar store or at any craft store.

The next step is to attach all the clothespins to the wire frame. I decided I wanted them to be going in one direction but you could also have them each go opposite of each other or even create different patterns with the clothespins.

I wanted to make sure the wreath was colorful so I decided to bring out the spray paint. My favorite spray paint is from ColorShot. I have found that their spray paint covers very well and the colors are amazing. I chose a traditional green as I wanted this to look like a Spring garden.

Although I find spray paint easier you could also use acrylic paint or colored clothespins for the project.
After the spray paint was dried I played around with attaching felt balls and felt flowers. Once I had the arrangement that I liked I used a hot glue gun to attach the balls and flowers to the clothespins. In addition to felt flowers or balls you could also add faux flowers.
In addition to the felt flowers and felt balls there needed to be another element. I chose to make a small hello sign to add to the side of the wreath to add some interest. I had a small wood canvas that I painted with a light pink and then used a mesh stencil with green paint.

This project is an easy DIY project that would work for many other holidays, I think a Christmas wreath, American flag wreath and a Valentine’s Day wreath would all be great projects for a clothespin wreath for a front door.

Another idea would be to get smaller wire wreath frames (can find at Dollar Tree) and have kids create their own wreath and then they can paint them and decorate them however they like, a great project for any holiday.
