This weekend is our church’s annual sausage and sauerkraut dinner. This is a huge fundraiser for our private school and draws crowds of up to 10,000 people to our small little community for yummy food and fun activities. All the parishioners volunteer and help out in all aspects of the preparation and the day of events. I have been volunteering since the 4th grade, some 23 years now (don’t do the math please! LOL). This year I am honored to take over as chairwoman of the candy booth. This is a position that my Grandma Gen started in back in the 1970s and I took over for my Aunt this year, it is definitely a family event. She recently dropped off all the “candy stuff” and part of it was records that have been kept from the beginning in my Grandmother’s writing!
The candy is all homemade by parishioners and packaged into one pound and half pound boxes and separated by nuts and nut free. We get tons of fudge, divinity and toffee donated. It is a tradition that I look forward to every year.
Since my week has been full of candy making I thought it would be fitting to share some of the best candy recipes I found for you to try. Enjoy!
