Fall weather is in the air over most of the country and that means it is time to start thinking about Halloween and Fall crafting! And what better way to get ready for the “spooky” season than to make some cute ghost crafts for kids to help create. I have created several crafts for kids to create spooky and cute ghosts for the season. These crafts would be great to do at a Halloween party for kids of all ages. In addition all three of these Halloween ghost crafts are a simple craft using very little supplies.
Cheesecloth Ghost
This first craft is a cheesecloth ghost. Kids will love to make this craft because they get to use a balloon and use “stiffy” glue to create a standing ghost.
It is best to start with a tray or plastic down before beginning this craft. I then used a glass mason jar but any type of jar or cardboard would work to keep the balloon up. Place the jar on the plastic/tray and then blow up a balloon about half way and tie it and put it in the top of the glass jar.

Tape the balloon to the jar and then place a layer of cheesecloth over the balloon and jar. Before folding another layer of cheesecloth apply the Stiffy glue with a foam brush until it is painted all over the layer and then repeat with each layer that you fold over.

Let the glue dry and then you can remove the ghost from the jar and pop the balloon, the ghost should stand on it’s own! Have the kids cut out two black oval eyes from felt and glue onto the ghost. If you don’t want to use felt for the eyes you could also use big googly eyes. It is also fun to place a battery powered candle underneath the ghost for a fun glow.

Air Dry Clay Ghosts
As my daughter and I were recently browsing the store aisles looking at Halloween decorations we noticed a trend of pastel colored cute ghosts. So this craft is to create friendly ghosts out of air dry clay.

For this craft you can either buy air dry clay that is already pastel in color or use white clay that you will then paint (or kids will paint). Begin by rolling out the clay with a rolling pin and then draping over everyday household items to create the shape of the ghosts. I used spice containers, a glass cup, and a mug.

Once the clay has dried you can then paint them any color you desire, as I mentioned about I was drawn to the pastel ghosts so I painted mine purple, pink and green but they would also look great with white paint for a traditional ghost look.

- Air-dry clay
- Acrylic paint (if using white clay)
Pom-Pom Ghosts
This last craft is one that is easy for younger kids with a little help from an adult and uses simple materials you probably already have at home. Using a white piece of paper card stock draw a ghost shape and then cut out. Draw on a couple ghosts eyes and color in with black sharpie marker.

Give the kids cotton balls and glue and have them fill in the entire ghost with the cotton balls without covering the eyes making sure to use enough glue for the cotton balls to stick. Once the glue is dry you can then cut out the ghost. In addition crafting pom-poms of varying colors could also be used in place of cotton balls.

These would look great on a bulletin boards at school but could also be hung up in a classroom by using a hole punch and yarn to hang.
