The chicken coop we have is great and the best part is that it was FREE! Friends of ours had moved to a house just a mile away and this chicken coop was in the backyard and they had no intention of using it. So it was brought over to our house on a tractor and placed where it is now. And other than putting down bedding not much was done to the coop once we added the chickens. But now I decided we needed a cute chicken coop with a much needed makeover.
The function of this chicken coop was just fine for what we need so I knew that any updates I made would be cosmetic. I went to our paint stash and found some white exterior paint that worked perfectly to give the coop a brighten up.

Once I started painting the outside white I knew that the hinges and door latch needed an update as well as they looked dingy against the white. I found some black spray paint in my stash and took the door off and painted these as well.

After all the paint was dry I decided I wanted to add something to the side of the coop. In looking at my wood stash I realized I had a lot of trim so I wanted to make some fake windows. I cut the trim to make square windows with a fake grid inside.

Justin attached the fake windows for me with a brad nailer. I also realized I had these flower pots that would fit perfectly under the fake windows so Justin created a brace for the bottom and then attached them to the coop.

And now we just need to wait until Spring to plant some colorful flowers.
