A kitchen faucet is one of the most used household items in a busy home and having one that is functional is essential. But I also like to have a kitchen faucet that is pleasing to the eye and one that I enjoy aesthetically so that also is a thought when choosing a new faucet. However there are varying types of kitchen faucets on the market today ranging from relatively cheap to extremely pricey. I wanted to start researching the cost to replace a kitchen faucet because our old faucet is due for a facelift.
The sink and faucet that we have in our kitchen are the ones that were here when we moved in. Someday I would love to remodel our entire kitchen with new cabinets, appliances, sink and faucet but I know that this is going to be a dream that we will have to save for.
The sink that we have most likely dates to the 1980s and eventually some day we will get a new sink and the existing faucet most likely to the early 2000s. But since this post is all about faucets we will keep on that subject. The faucet that we currently have is a standard faucet from it’s era that is definitely starting to show its wear. This faucet had a spot for the blue and red dots that indicate cold and hot but those have since worn away. Another disadvantage of this faucet type is that it is hard to get large pots under the faucet for hand washing.
Seeing as though my husband is a plumber I wanted to research multiple types of faucet prices that he would approve of and that have a budget in mind. Here are the five faucets that I found that range in price from $93 to $520. The high end range of these faucets would definitely be a splurge.

Now that I have researched about a new kitchen faucet let’s talk about in more detail about the varying price ranges of these types of kitchen sink faucets. As you may see from above the faucet’s prices range from fairly inexpensive to very pricey. And you may be wondering why there is such a vast difference.
In talking to my husband who has been a journeyman plumber for the last 15 years there are some things he has learned and therefore I feel is qualified to be known as an expert. And he has mentioned that with most products we know of the ones that are cheap and those that are of higher quality. I like to think of it like clothes, some can be purchased for very little but are made of thinner material, and the quality is lacking, this is the same with plumbing parts.

Justin wants most people to know that if a faucet is a brand that you have never heard of then it is most likely a cheaper quality product so you are getting what you pay for. Some of the popular brands of plumbing materials are Delta, Hans-Grohe, Grohe, Kohler and Moen.
Another issue with sme brands of faucets is that the materials on the inside of the faucet are cheaper quality, this is popular when buying products from big box stores. The exterior of the faucet is metal but the interior working parts are usually plastic and therefore will break down faster than parts that are made of brass. A professional plumber like Justin recommends purchasing a faucet replacement from a plumbing supply company instead of the box store.

One other factor to consider when buying a new kitchen faucet is how it will be installed, will you do DIY installation or hire a licensed plumber to install the faucet. This can be a factor when choosing a faucet as prices can vary depending on the area you live and will add on additional installation costs. Installing a kitchen faucet does take some plumbing skills but is definitely a project that can be done by any homeowner.

When it comes time to choose your faucet you will need to decide what type of faucet style you are wanting to install, for example a pull-out faucets, touchless faucet, single-handle faucets, or wall-mounted faucets. And if you are only changing the faucet and not the kitchen sink then you will need to think about the holes in the sink, like for a soap dispenser or if the faucet you choose does not have this feature you will have to use a cover on that hole.
Lastly when it comes to the cost of the faucet you will want to determine if you want a faucet for the long-term, say in a house you don’t plan to move from or maybe it is an investment or rental property and in that case you can choose a functioning but lower end model.
When looking for a good plumber or plumbing company I recommend asking friends and family first or in a local Facebook group to find one that people have worked with in the past.
